Yes. That's Fred Garvin. I think television has lost it's way today . I enjoyed the old shows and still do thanks to dvds.

You have a lot of cool old videos. Is your avatar by any chance Dan Akyroid as Fred Garvin, male prostitute? That's awesome, LOL!
Re: Hope's '77 special, don't get me wrong; I can appreciate the nostalgic appeal. But talking about 1977 as a kinder, more innocent, 'more AMERICAN' time of 'good clean fun' is ridiculous. I know nostalgia's blind but it needn't be stupid, lol. People were already long lamenting those bygone days of good clean fun by '77.
Anyway, cool channel nesnman ;)

While I agree it's not great it's still fun to watch. The show was a ratings winner as well. I liked the Bob Hope Christmas Shows better however.

Get a clue people. It's from '1977', not '1957'. This isn't from any age of innocence. This is the peak of the soulless era of Disco, a world of cheesy excsess, cocaine fueled hypercommercialism and zero sentimentality. Jimmy Carter. Malaise. Horrific fashion. This ain't nothing to wax nostalgic about.
As for the material itself, the writing is HORRIBLE and Como and Hope, then long past their prime (not that Hope was ever funny anway), can't help laughing like a couple of rank amateurs.

"...Television used to be about the best of America. It's now about the worst...."
That statement is So True on So Many Levels ! !!

I know. Reality TV is the worst. Television used to be about the best of America. It's now about the worst.

It was back in 1977 and this was the norm for this kind of comedy

Really doesn't age well. May have been funny once, but not anymore. |
