It was a rather secure airbase but when I took off for R&R in Tokyo just before TET, the airstrip started getting shelled and mine was the last plane off before the runway was shutdown.

Thanks for perserving all of this. I walked that beach on the southern end many times and explored those Japanese pill boxes. You really should make a website and put these on there and let people tell their stories about Cam Ranh Bay. I've seen some sites but they aren't updated and don't allow contributions.
