In my opinion the Vietnamese population would have had a better life if the North had lost the war, like people from South Corea have had a better life than people of North Corea. But I don't think US could succeed invading the North, it would have ended like in Corea : an escalation with involvement od China, maybe USSR and then stalemate and maybe partition. Still a better outcome than leaving the South to be taken over by the North, tho.

That's not quite right. The US Congress refused to make further foreign aid appropriations, so the South Vietnamese were left empty-handed. Moreover, the North's invation of the South in early 1975 violated several provisions of the Paris Peace Accords. We should've B-52'd their asses back to the stone age. Moreover, what the North did in 1975 is EXACTLY what we should have done in 1965: invade. We should've taken the war to the North, not gotten bogged down in the South.

Dear Proud2bDemocrat: You're right about Uncle Ho's supporting the US during WWII. Now, remember the times. Early 1950's. France still controlled Indo-China. We needed France's acquiesence (sp?) in order to re-arm Germany to face down the Soviets. Tough to get that if you're supporting someone who is killing French soldiers. Our mistake in Vietnam was getting bogged down in a guerilla war. We should've invaded and decimated North Vietnam. End of story.

Too bad, the US supported the wrong side, it should have supported the North(HANOI), Ho Chi Minh was a real Vietnamese heroic leader unlike the corrupted SOuthern Saigon military leaders, all he wanted was Vietnam, reunited, Ho even sided with the US during WW2 fighting the Japs occupying french Indochina.
